January 12, 2013During his coaching career at Georgia, offensive coordinator Mike Bobo has taken his share of shots from Bulldog football fans.
That is, until this year when Georgia set a school record for points in a season with 529.
Other schools are taking notice, as UGASports source confirmed an earlier Twitter report by ESPN's Mark Schlabach that Bobo recently turned down an offer to become the new offensive coordinator at Virginia Tech.
A finalist for the Broyles Award, Bobo earns $335,000 annually for the Bulldogs and is expected to receive a raise when contracts are extended on July 1.
How close was Bobo to making the jump?
According to Newport News Daily Press sports reporter Norm Wood, Bobo was actually the top choice to become the new offensive coordinator by Virginia Tech, which reportedly sent a plane from Blacksburg, Va. to Athens to come up for an interview. Bobo did not get on the plane.
Bobo was at Stegeman Coliseum with other Bulldog coaches who were hosting recruits attending Saturday's basketball game between Georgia and Mississippi State.
