March 9, 2012Auburn basketball signee Shaquille Johnson scored 23 points, grabbed 6 rebounds, and blocked three shots leading Milton High School (Ga.) to a 79-67 win over Savannah in the Class AAAAA state championship on Friday night.
It was Milton's second title in three years.
Savannah went on a 9-0 run over the third and fourth quarters and led 49-47. Savannah's last lead was 53-51 with 6 minutes left. But Johnson then made a dunk, his sixth of seven in the game, plus a free throw, and Milton never trailed from there.
Johnson recorded seven dunks in the game.
Milton's sophomore point guard Jalyn Patterson scored 16 points in the game, a day after scoring 20 points against Harrison in the semifinals. Patterson's back-to-back performances garnered him an Auburn offer on Friday night according to Jalyn's mother, Leah.
Rivals100 Signee Jordan Price scored 17 points for Southwest Dekalb High School (Ga.), but it wasn't enough as Price and his teammates fell to No. 1 Miller Grove 63-57 on Friday night. It was Miller Grove's fourth straight title in Class AAAA.
Southwest DeKalb took a 49-48 lead on Price's free throw with 3:46 left. But at 3:11, Southwest's own McDonald's All-American, Rivals100 forward Shaq Goodwin, fouled out.
Price, the nation's No. 10 shooting guard, and Southwest Dekalb only lost two games since Jan. 1, both against Miller Grove.
A third signee, McCluer North (Mo.) forward Jordon Granger, leads his team into the Class 5 state final on Saturday at 4:45 p.m. CT against Nixa. Granger averaged 15 points, seven rebounds, and three blocks per game this season leading the Stars to a 27-1 record.
