February 19, 2012When John Jenkins shoots like this, Vanderbilt's tough to beat.
The junior scored 28 points on just 11 shots, as the Commodores went to Athens and beat Georgia 61-52 on Sunday afternoon.
Vanderbilt trailed 29-28 at half, and the game was tied at 4 until Jenkins hit a lay-up with 12:03 left. That was the start of a 10-0 VU run that wasn't broken until Georgia's Gerald Robinson, Jr. hit a jumper at the 7:22 mark.
The closest UGA got from there was seven on Kentavious Caldwell-Pope's lay-up with 45 seconds left.
Jeffery Taylor added 13 for VU, while Robinson's 19 were a game-high for the Bulldogs.
"We did not play our best today," VU coach Kevin Stallings said later.
Stallings was mostly unhappy with the team's 20 turnovers, 14 of which came from post players.
Vanderbilt (19-8, 8-4 Southeastern Conference) returns home to face last-place South Carolina at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
