The list of injuries continues to grow for Missouri. Gary Pinkel stated on two different Kansas City radio stations that starting tailback Kendial Lawrence suffered a hairline fracture in his leg at practice on Monday and "is out for a period of time."
Missouri spokeman Chad Moller confirmed the injury as a broken fibula (a non-weight bearing injury) and said the Tigers "hope to have him back in four weeks possibly."
Lawrence was Missouri's starter coming out of fall camp, but had just ten yards on nine carries in the opener against Miami (OH). Pinkel said yesterday afternoon that a shoulder injury had limited Lawrence in practice during the week last week.
Henry Josey was Missouri's leading rusher in the Miami game with 43 yards on six carries. Senior De'Vion Moore also had six carries, gaining 23 yards, and added two receptions for 17 yards against the Redhawks. Both were listed as "even" on Missouri's depth chart yesterday, along with Lawrence.
"How we're going to do it right now is, after this week from now on, if one plays better than the other, he's going to start," Pinkel said prior to the Lawrence injury. "If one pulls away, he'll play more. That's kind of where we're at right now."
Sophomore Marcus Murphy was lost for the season with a shoulder injury prior to fall camp. Redshirt freshman Greg White had been listed fourth on the depth chart and walk-on Jared Culver also got reps during fall camp and was used as an H-Back on a few plays against Miami (OH).
PowerMizzou.com is still awaiting official confirmation from Missouri on Lawrence's injury. The Tigers play at Arizona State at 9:30 Central time on Friday night.
