March 2, 2010Pine Bluff (Dollarway HS), Ark. running back Treyvon Daniels recently visited for Ole Miss' Junior Day event and plans to make several return visits to the Oxford campus in the coming months.
Daniels, a 6-foot-1, 242 pound running back prospect who reports a 4.53 40-yard dash, is waiting for his first offer, but was highly impressed with his visit to Ole Miss.
"I had an excellent time," he said of his mid-February visit to Ole Miss' most recent junior day. "I learned a lot of new things about Ole Miss and came away really liking them a lot."
Two Rebel coaches made a big impression on Daniels.
"I got to talk to both Coach (Houston) Nutt and to (running backs) Coach (Derrick) Nix," Daniels said. "They both were telling me that they need some film, both from my practices and live game action, where they can evaluate me. "
In addition to the mutual interest with Ole Miss, Daniels is receiving interest from Duke, Illinois, Kansas State, and Arkansas.
He plans to visit Arkansas' junior day event this coming weekend, when the Ole Miss basketball team will be in town for its regular season finale against the Razorbacks.
In addition to the Arkansas visit, Daniels said he is being encouraged to return to Ole Miss' next junior day event on March 27. While that's the only junior day events scheduled for Daniels, he has plans for various activities this spring and summer.
"The Ole Miss coaches told me they would be up this spring (during the spring evaluation period) and they definitely want me to come to their Senior Only camp late in the summer," he said. "In addition to that, I'll probably camp at Arkansas and another place I'm planning on going, probably back-to-back , is camps at Georgia and Georgia Tech."
Daniels rushed for 1,233 yards last year as a junior on just 187 attempts and added another 200 yards on 11 receptions. He played only on offense for his Dollarway team.
Dollarway has recenly provided another prospect to Ole Miss - Jesse Grandy - who starred on kick return teams (two kickoffs for TDs during the season, tying a long-time Ole Miss record) and played some on offense as a true freshman last season.
"I talk with Jesse at least once a week," Daniels said. "He's not really recruiting me for Ole Miss, but he keeps telling me he really likes it down there."
Another thing that has impressed Daniels when it comes to Ole Miss is its academics.
"When I was down on the visit, they showed us the (FEDEX) Academic Center and it was really great," he said. "They have some really good programs in place and I couldn't believe all the assistance available for the players."
Daniels reports a 3.0 GPA and recently took the ACT for the first time on short notice. He said he came up a couple of points short of the required score, but plans to re-take the test either later this month or next month.
