TCU lands Texas trio
TCU is on fire. With the 2009 recruiting season taking off in blistering fashion, don't blink or you might miss a commitment....or three!! The Horned Frogs have just landed a trio of talented prospects from the same Texas high school, who are they and where are they from? Check it out inside.
With an unprecedented start to a TCU recruiting class unfolding before our eyes, the boys in purple stuck again...times three. That's right, three players from the same high school. And if that's not crazy enough for you, try this on for size, Maud high school in tiny Maud, Texas is a 1A high school. It's rare enough that a true Division one talent comes from a 1A high school but three of them...on the same team? Believe it or not, that's exactly how it's playing out for the TCU Horned Frogs and they have to be feeling pretty good about the prospect of these three young men making their way to Ft. Worth to join the Frog family.
James Dunbar (6'6" 290) DE, Ray Burns (6'1" 290) DT and Bryant House (6'4" 265) DE/DT are the three aforementioned players. The trio was previously committed to Tulsa but when TCU came calling, it was too good to pass up. PurpleMenace.Com caught up with the talented threesome Tuesday night and got a few quotes from the newest Horned Frogs.
James Dunbar when asked what made him switch his commitment. "Well, I really liked how it was close to home and how they are a championship caliber team. Nothing against Tulsa, they're good and all but TCU is a championship type team. I like that all three of us got offered so that was a big deal to me."
So what specifically does Dunbar like about TCU?
"I just like everything about them, I plan on majoring in Kinesiology and minoring in health. I think TCU will be a good school for that. The coaches are recruiting me as a defensive end and I like that too."
I then asked if there was anything that he would like to pass on to the Frog faithful.
"All I know is this, tell them they are getting a player that's good, hardworking and ready to contribute to the team in any way possible."
Now on to the next young man in our update, Bryant House. House is a big, athletic defensive lineman that could end up at either defensive end or defensive tackle. At 6'4" and 265 pounds, he has the size and athleticism to play both positions but defensive tackle may ultimately be his final destination. So what were his thoughts on the Horned Frog offer?
"I thought it was good to get an offer from them. Tulsa is a good school but I like that TCU is closer, I just really like the location. I want to study architectural design and chemical and mechanical engineering while I'm there."
Anything to pass on the the Ft. Worth fans?
"Yeah, your getting an impact player."
Last but not least we caught up with the DT Ray Burns. The 6'1" 290 burns is a load up the middle and looks like he could be the type of player that a defense could build around in the future. Burns is athletic enough that he's been used as the kicker too. What was it that made Burns ultimately make the switch?
"I just liked that it was closer to home and they offered all three of us. I'm not sure what I'm going to major in yet but I really like the school and the program."
Burns wasn't sure what he wanted to say to the Horned Frog fans just yet but it's pretty clear that I know what I want to say. This is an enormous coup for the coaching staff and it looks like they have landed three top notch players in the process. The 2009 class is off to a start that we've never seen before in the modern age of TCU recruiting and by all accounts it's only going to get better. Numerous talented prospects look to be on the verge of calling Ft. Worth home so stay tuned to PurpleMenace.Com to see who might be next!
