Melton ready to begin Tech career
It's been a productive summer and fall for 2007 Georgia Tech signee Tyler Melton. The wide receiver from Houston delayed joining the team and entering school so he could focus on rehabbing from a knee injury, but Melton now reports he's fully healed and ready to enroll. He's stayed in close contact with the team these last few months by attending several home games.
Melton was one of Tech's early commitments last year, pledging his verbal in the summer before his senior year. He took his official visit the weekend of Notre Dame game, but ended up tearing his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) shortly thereafter. Tech stuck by him through the injury and he signed in February, but it was mutally determined that he would be better served by "grayshirting" since he was still going through the rehab process during the summer.
Melton was always an excellent student in high school, so he wasn't going to sit around and basically take the fall off. He jumped right in by taking several college courses that would give him a headstart, but wouldn't affect his eligibility clock.
