Catching up with the 2006 signing class
A little more than a year ago, Alabama fans were basking in the afterglow of a recruiting haul some deemed as Mike Shula's best to date. Twelve months later, Shula is coaching quarterbacks for the Jacksonville Jaguars and Nick Saban is in charge of 20 scholarship players who are wrapping up their first year in the program.
Yet another example of how quickly things can change in the ever-changing world of major college football.
The 2006 signing class featured seven players who saw game action as true freshmen, including a 13-game starter in Andre Smith, who took over as the starter at left offensive tackle. Two others, Javier Arenas and Terry Grant, were back deep on kickoff returns in the season-opener against Hawai'i.
