Culp ready to check out Ole Miss
Fayetteville (Ark.) High School coach Darryl Patton told his standout wide receiver, Brad Culp once one offer came, others would follow.
Culp didn't really believe his coach. Perhaps he should have. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound speedster is suddenly a hot commodity.
Culp will visit Ole Miss this weekend, North Carolina on Jan. 27 and possibly Arkansas State sometime in between those two trips.
"(Ole Miss) just called me up a couple of months ago and started talking to me," Culp said. "They were checking on how things were going. They had seen my film. They had seen me at a camp this summer and liked me a lot.
"I'm kind of going in relaxed and having fun with these days. In six months, wherever I play, it's not going to be this easy. I'm just trying to find what college I like. I'm just trying to enjoy it. It's a once in a lifetime thing."
Culp, who recorded a 4.47-second 40-yard dash at a camp at Oklahoma State last summer, said he saw Oxford, Miss., briefly over the summer. This weekend, he said, could prove to be critical in the decision-making process.
"I'm going to learn about it this weekend," Culp said. "They've told me they'd love for me to come play for them. They've told me if I come with interest, I'll play at Ole Miss. I have the speed they like. They said I'd play the slot receiver."
Culp had 64 catches for 1,208 yards and 13 touchdowns as a senior, adding more than 200 rushing yards. He said Thursday night he still has "no clue" where he'll sign on Feb. 1, but he admitted Ole Miss' Southeastern Conference affiliation is attractive.
"I'm just checking out the colleges and seeing what I like," Culp said. "I'm going to spend four years there. I might as well like it.
Playing in the SEC is big-time football. It's the best conference in the nation. If I do end up playing at Ole Miss, that'd be a great deal for me. "
