2011 stud has Gamecock offer
Columbus (GA) Carver DT Gabriel Wright is one of the top defensive tackle prospects in the Southeast for the Class of 2011. A host of schools have already jumped on the talented Peach State defender, including Lorenzo Ward and the South Carolina Gamecocks.
The 6-foot-2, 260 pounder has picked up offers from a number of schools over the past few weeks, with an emphasis on the SEC.
"Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Auburn, Arkansas, and some others have all offered me," he told GamecockCentral.com.
Wright talked about his interest in South Carolina.
"I know they're a good program," he said. "They are in the SEC and they have a good defense. I like their linebacker, Eric Norwood."
In fact, the big lineman's interest in South Carolina has prompted him to place the Gamecocks firmly within his top five schools, which he named to GamecockCentral.com.
"My top schools are Auburn, Ole Miss, USC, Georgia, and Tennessee," he said in order.
Out of those, one school stands out at the moment.
"I like Auburn the most right now," he said. "I've been on a visit there and everything was really good."
Some visits to other SEC programs may be in Wright's future.
"I'm going to Tennessee and Georgia for one-day camps in June," he said. "I'm definitely interested in South Carolina, too. I'm going to have to take a visit up there."
South Carolina currently has offers out to five Carver prospects: 2010 ends Corey Crawford and Brandon Smith, as well as offensive lineman David Beasley. The other two are Wright and fellow underclassman Isiah Crowell, a dynamic running back.
"Me and Isiah talk about playing together some," Wright said. "He's a bad man. We have little competitions going on in practice. I asked my coach if we could be on opposite teams for our spring game. He has his days and I have mine. He gives me trouble sometimes."
There are a few attributes that Wright will seek in his future school.
"I want to see the education at the school," he said. "I would like to major in criminal justice. I also would like a good FCA program and want to have good coaches around me."
