Texas athlete has Ole Miss in his top three
Trey Franks attended the AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic as a Texas Tech fan.
After all, his brother, Jacoby Franks, caught six passes for 58 yards as a redshirt freshman for the Red Raiders.
However, the team that beat Texas Tech on that gorgeous Jan. 2 afternoon in Dallas, Ole Miss, caught Franks' eye.
Months later, Ole Miss has made a strong move for Franks' collegiate services. Franks, a 5-foot-9 wide receiver/cornerback/return specialist from West Orange (Stark), Texas, picked up a scholarship offer from Ole Miss earlier this week.
"I was real happy," said Franks, whose oldest brother, Kerry, played wide receiver at Texas A&M. "I know they're a real good team. My brother plays for Texas Tech and they stomped a mudhole in them."
Franks, who is rated as a three-star prospect by Rivals.com, has offers from Missouri, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Baylor, Arkansas, Ole Miss and Oklahoma. Three teams stand out at this point, Franks said Wednesday night.
"I really like Oklahoma and Baylor and I really like Ole Miss," Franks said. "I want to find out more about them, too.
I just know they're a real good team. I talked to the coach and he's a real cool guy. I'm going to find out more this summer. I'm going to Oxford this summer, hopefully. They want to get me over there to just look at the campus and see how I like it over there."
Franks, who caught 34 passes for 605 yards and six touchdowns as a junior, said while most schools are recruiting him primarily as a wide receiver, others like him in the secondary.
"Most just want to get me there and they want me to return punts and kickoffs," Franks said. "I really like offense. I like the ball in my hands. But I like to be aggressive and go get the ball, too."
Franks said that in addition to his planned trip to Oxford this summer, he plans to camp at Alabama, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Missouri.
"I just want to see the schools for myself and make the best decision for me," Franks said. "We're going to make a trip of it and go to as many campuses as we can."
Extra Point: Ole Miss has also offered Franks' Stark teammate, four-star linebacker James Haynes.
