Nike may make wonderful shoes and sporting good apparel, but apparently their baseball bats leave a little bit to be desired.
At least now, Georgia players have a choice as to which piece of equipment they can use.
According to head coach David Perno, his players have been given the OK by athletic director Damon Evans to use either Easton composite bats or Nike metal bats when the Bulldogs open their season Friday against Youngstown State.
"Our kids seem to enjoy it and the opportunity," Perno said. "Damon did a great job of working that situation out."
Although Perno could not comment further, UGASports learned that Evans worked out an agreement with Nike - which has a exclusive contract for all Georgia sports teams to use the company's clothing and equipment - to allow the baseball team to use the Easton bats.
Most colleges and high schools use Easton bats.
"We can use either Easton composite or Nike metal," Perno said.
That news has obviously been well-received. When asked how many of his current players are using the Easton models, Perno smiled "All of them."
