Spartans land big Ohio OL
Michigan State continued its impressive run on the recruiting trail. Earlier today they picked up another big recruit for the class of when offensive tackle Henry Conway of Shaker Heights, Ohio committed to Head Coach Mark Dantonio. SpartanMag.com spoke with the 3-star prospect and got the details.
The 6-foot-6, 295-pound Conway informed Spartsnbmag.com that he would be spending the next 4 or 5 years in East Lansing playing for the Green and White.
"I called Coach Dantonio and told him I wanted to come to Michigan State, Conway said. He was all for it, he was excited. He was in a staff meeting and all the coaches were happy. I just have a real good feeling about Michigan State and think they can go all the way."
Conway's has handled his recruitment in a very professional manner. Before contacting Spartanmag.com he spoke with the coaches at Boston College and Coach Brian Kelly at Cincinnati. Conway wanted to personally thank them for the opportunity the offered him. He informed us that both coaches were appreciative for him calling them.
So what was it that prompted Conway's decision?
"It was a lot of things. I spoke with my dad and we talked about if you really know where you want to go it doesn't make sense to waste anyone else's time. I have a real good relationship with the coaches, players and recruits that are coming there. I know Nate Klatt and Micajah Reynolds real well. I just think Coach Dantonio and Michigan State is different. He stresses family and faith and that is important. I also liked the chemistry between Coach Izzo and Coach Dantonio."
The decision by Conway gives Michigan State a total of 20 commitments for the class of 2009. Prior to Conway's; commitment Rivals.com ranked the Spartan offensive line class as 4th best in the nation. The addition of Conway only serves to bolster that ranking. Conway is rated the #78 offensive tackle in that nation. In the end he selected the Green and White over a host of scholarship offers including ones from Boston College, Cincinnati and Indiana. Conway was recruited for the Spartans by Defensive Coordinator Pat Narduzzi.
Conway was both excited and relived to have his decision over with. Getting a chance to play for a school like Michigan State is a dream come true.
I can't wait to play ion that stadium. To have the chance to go against Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State; Michigan State plays Notre Dame every year. It is going to be great."
Conway has long been a player the Spartan have wanted to add to this class. He was offered a full scholarship after camping at Michigan State and having a strong performance. SpartanMag.com scouted Conway at the summer camp and came away impressed with his agility for a person his size.
Spartanmag.com will continue to keep in contact over the coming weeks. Look for much more on Conway's commitment to Michigan State in a future edition of Spartan Magazine.
