Dawgs to sign two on Wednesday
Georgia will be signing two 2009 basketball prospects Wednesday November 12. Demario Mayfield and Daniel Miller each plan to make their commitment to UGA official and they are ready to be Bulldogs. Georgia may not be done in this class, but they will be off to a good start.
Miller is expected to sign with Georgia at 10am Wednesday morning and he chose UGA over Georgia Tech and Stanford.
The 6-foot-10, 240 pound center out of Loganville Christian Academy in Loganville (GA) averaged 28 points and 13 rebounds a game as a junior and he has worked hard to improve his game this season.
When the post player made his decision earlier this fall, he knew Georgia was where he wanted to further his basketball career and education.
"I pretty much grew up being an Athens fan, cheering for the Bulldogs, I live 30 minutes from campus, and I just decided that (Georgia) is where I wanted to be."
Joining Miller signing on Wednesday will be Mayfield. The 6-foot-3, 180 pound combo guard out of Carnesville (GA) Franklin County plans to sign with the Dawgs at 4pm.
Mayfield is a versatile guard with great athleticism. He can handle the ball, he plays good defense, and he can get out and run the floor well.
His best basketball is ahead of him and he is excited about his future in Athens.
"Georgia showed me all the love I needed back when they offered me and I can't wait to play there," said Mayfield. "I want to go in, work hard, learn, and fight for playing time next year."
Both Miller and Mayfield are definitely signing with UGA, but will five-star Derrick Favors join them during the early signing period? Only Favors knows.
He is not dropping any hints and he has not let anyone know yet if he will sign during the early period (Nov. 12-19) or if he will wait for April. It appears to be a Georgia/Georgia Tech battle for Favors with N.C. State and Memphis also in the mix.
Look for signing day coverage of Miller and Mayfield later this week on UGASports.
