Sparks makes his presence known
One player who turned the heads of coaches and fans in attendance last weekend at the Nike camp on the campus of TCU was Irving(TX)MacArthur defensive tackle Albert Sparks. The 6-foot-2, 315-pounder made the short drive to Ft. Worth and ended up being one of the top players at the camp.
Sparks, who last season earned second-team district honors says he's glad he made the trip and enjoyed the experience of competing against some of the southwest's top players.
"It was a great experience," Sparks said. "I liked competing with the other recruits, it was a lot of fun. The most fun I had was doing one-on-one drills, I had a lot of fun doing that."
After a strong performance Sparks should see his recruitment rise considerably. Although he doesn't hold an offer to date he is getting strong interest from programs in the Big 12 among others.
"I'm hearing from Nebraska, Louisville, Texas Tech, OU, and LSU," Sparks said. "I'm basically hearing from the whole Big 12. Right now I like Nebraska, Louisville, and OU. I've talked a lot to the coaches at Nebraska (Coach Beck), he's the one recruiting me. He just talks a lot about the program and I have an interest in them."
Another team Sparks has heard a little from is TCU which has one of Sparks friends and former teammate on the roster, Kelly Griffin.
"I'm good friends with Kelly," Sparks said. "I'd be interested in playing on the same team as him. I don't know a whole lot about TCU."
