Thompson, Auburn defense stuff Tide
Josh Thompson didn't grow up in Alabama. He didn't root for the Tide. Didn't care about the Tigers. But in his five years at Auburn, the Statesboro, Ga.-native learned how much the Iron Bowl means.
Friday night during a team meeting, an emotional Thompson spoke to his teammates and coaches. He told them how much the game meant to the seniors, how much it meant to him.
And then Saturday night he went out and backed up those words.
Thompson, in his last game at Jordan-Hare Stadium, had a career-night against Alabama. He finished with a team-high 12 tackles, four solos and eight assists. More importantly, he and the 17 seniors finished their Iron Bowl careers unscathed.
Auburn beat Alabama for the sixth straight time with a 17-10 win on the Plains.
