Seminole defense bounces back
The Florida State defense had a lot to smile about Saturday night in the Seminoles' win over Duke. The unit held Blue Devils quarterback Thaddeus Lewis below his season averages. FSU allowed just nine yards rushing and 222 yards of total offense.
Yet one number turned that smile into a wince for FSU's defenders - six. Those were the points they allowed late in Saturday's game, robbing them of the shutout they've wanted all season.
Even with that late touchdown, the Seminoles defense played much more like the unit that swarmed teams in the beginning of the season.
"Defensively, we played an excellent ball game," FSU coach Bobby Bowden said. "As long as your defense plays like that, you always have a chance to win."
