Felton not cutting any corners
When Georgia basketball coach Dennis Felton announced that three of his players had been suspended for violating the school's academic policy, one of the immediate questions raised was how much the athletes knew what the new guidelines truly entailed.
According to seniors Sundiata Gaines and Dave Bliss, the answer is simple.
"It was pretty clear," Bliss said. "We had some meetings with (athletic director) Damon Evans and the whole body of student athletes. Guys were aware of the policy."
Mike Mercer (15 games), Takais Brown (nine games) and Albert Jackson (six games) were each suspended for violating that new academic policy, although all three will be eligible to continue practicing with the team.
"We were aware of it, everybody," Gaines said. "It's just unfortunate that it didn't work out for some of our teammates. But we can't get side-tracked.
