One step forward, two steps back
Oregon State's 310 yards and 31 points in the first half would be all it needed as the Beavers went on to defeat Arizona 31-16.
Yvenson Bernard powered the first-half effort and accrued 140 yards and two touchdowns on 32 carries on the game.
After both teams punted on their opening drives, the Beavers got things going first on the shoulders of Bernard as he ran in for a 20-yard touchdown for the first points of the game.
Arizona found success in the passing game on its successive drive but stalled at the 25-yard line, forcing Jason Bondzio to kick a successful 42-yard field goal.
A 57-yard kickoff return by Gerard Lawson gave Oregon State great field position, good enough to let Bernard run loose again for another Beavers touchdown.
Arizona's Willie Tuitama threw an interception to Joey LaRocque, who subsequently returned it for another touchdown.
