Thursday Insider: Galippo injury well-timed
Chris Galippo has a herniated disc in his back. It requires surgery, which will sideline him the rest of the season.
"If there's a positive that comes out of this, it's the fact that I will get my year back next year," the true freshman linebacker said. "I'll get to start over."
Having played in the first three - and only the first three - games of the season, Galippo should be able to take a medical redshirt and return in 2008 as a freshman.
Doctor Robert Watkins has explained the ailment to Galippo as, "a jelly donut underneath your vertebrae," Galippo said. Part of that donut is shredding and pushing up against a nerve - causing Galippo's discomfort. Watkins will remove that part of the disc Oct. 9.
