While Auburn's offense floundered, Mario Fannin waited.
He watched most of the Kansas State game from the sidelines, playing only on special teams. But he was patient, never complaining, and his opportunity finally came on AU's third offensive series against South Florida.
It was a stunning debut that came to a premature finish, ultimately ending in an embarrassing defeat for Auburn.

After AU failed to gain a first down on his first two possessions, Fannin entered the game with the Tigers trailing 7-0 and AU needing a spark. Fannin gained just 16 yards on four carries on the drive, but AU came away with a 49-yard field goal and a little bit of confidence.
A USF touchdown put the visiting Bulls up 14-3 late in the first quarter. Fannin had gotten his feet wet on AU's last drive, now he was hungry for more.
