Hoops: Illinois junior preps for U-M visit
A good summer on the AAU circuit can be the high school basketball recruit's key to earning interest and/or offers from different colleges. Niles (Ill.) West's Nik Garcia, an emerging prospect, is starting to discover just how true that is.
Garcia, a rising junior, counts his shot as one of his biggest assets. Head coach John Beilein and the Michigan staff really started taking notice of him this summer, when he scored 28 points - including a game tying buzzer beater against highly regarded Boo Williams Summer League - at the Nike Peach Jam in South Carolina, a tournament that raised his stock. He also reportedly excelled at the Chicago Summer Classic and the Nike Main Event playing for the Rising Stars 16-and-under Gold team.
The 6-5 shooting guard/small forward will be among Michigan's visitors this fall, planning to come in unofficially for U-M football's home game with Notre Dame.
