Practice Report: Fans take in Tide
DBs make plays during 7-on-7 drills
Sunday's open practice allowed Tide fans to watch the Tide run through 7-on-7 passing drills in which the defensive backs seemed to have the upper hand. Safety Rashad Johnson and cornerback Javier Arenas each made impressive pass-breakups while Cory Reamer pulled in an interception off a John Parker Wilson pass in the flat.
Check down passes to the running backs appeared to be a point of emphasis for the offense during the drill and Terry Grant, Roy Upchurch and fullback Baron Huber each looked impressive catching the ball out of the backfield.
After working for the first two days in their lighter "spider" pads, the Tide worked in regular shoulder pads and helmets Sunday which allowed the action to get a little more physical. During full 11-on-11 team drills, the Tide defensive front showed its ability to get physical with defensive tackle Lorenzo Washington making several plays at the line along with defensive end Wallace Gilberry.
On the offensive side, Terry Grant broke several big runs while DJ Hall looked impressive at wide out making good moves after the catch and competing for the ball with the defensive backs.
