Velasco ready to be the center of attention
It might not be the job he envisioned for himself as a senior when he first committed to the Georgia in 2002, but Fernando Velasco enters his final season in Athens as Georgia's starting center and leader of their offensive line.
Velasco was recruited to play guard and he did so for the last three years. Then, a series of injuries, some suspensions, and a lack of depth, forced him to the middle last fall as an emergency backup.
Heading into the offseason Head Coach Mark Richt said they wanted to keep Velasco at guard for his senior season and move redshirt freshman Chris Davis from guard to center. During this time, the Bulldogs changed offensive line coaches when Neil Callaway became the UAB Head Coach. Stacy Searels was hired to replace Callaway and he overhauled the entire line heading into spring camp.
