Practice report: Tigers try to heal up
Missouri put the pads on for the first time this spring, but Mother Nature forced the practice indoors. With snow falling all morning, Mizzou was in the Devine Pavilion for practice number three. Here are PowerMizzou.com's notes from the Saturday morning workout.
*Missouri is really banged up right now. The usual cast sat out practice, though Weatherspoon went without the red pullover today. In addition to those who were out, Brock Christopher sat out the last 45 minutes after rolling his ankle in a collision with Hardy Ricks. Chris Tipton broke his hand and walk-on Devon Lenauer injured his shoulder during a tackling drill and sat out the rest of practice.
*Fans have been abuzz about former St. Louis player of the year Shawn Scott, a walk-on tailback who has turned some heads. Gary Pinkel told us after practice that Mizzou is Scott's third school. He will have to sit out this season and will have three years of eligibility remaining starting in 2008.
*Pinkel also said the Tigers may not practice as scheduled on Tuesday. Two starters are out on the offensive line, and Tipton's injury means 30% of the two-deep is banged up. In addition, Tyler Luellen has class during the scheduled Tuesday practices. With that many linemen missing, Pinkel said he is considering giving people time to heal up and skipping a practice during the final week before spring break. One player told us Monte Wyrick may be back after spring break. PowerMizzou.com will have a feature on the offensive line tomorrow.
*Play of the Day: Not a doubt about this one. During 11-on-11 drills, Marcus Woods took a carry around left end. It wasn't the run that was the highlight though. Danario Alexander turned inside and threw a monstrous block, putting Corby on his back.
