Williams keeps open mind
For Hafis Williams, football represents a ticket out.
But the sport that will let the 6-foot-3, 265-pound athlete attend college for free doesn't define this top prospect from Elizabeth, N.J. Williams might look the part of a future defensive tackle, but there's more to this junior All-American than sacks and tackles.
"Me, I think outside the box with art and reading," Williams said. "I'm not football all the time, but football is my main goal."
Rutgers and Maryland have already offered scholarships to Williams with heavy interest coming from Notre Dame, Penn State and Virginia among others. Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weis made a visit to Elizabeth High School last month to check on Williams, who's looking for more in a college than early playing time.
