When college coaches take an in-home visit with Darien (GA) McIntosh County Academy LB Allen Bailey, they better know what they're in for.
Bailey's family is among the approximately 60 residents of Hog Hammock, a 434-acre private community on Georgia's Sapelo Island.
All of the residents in Hog Hammock are descendants of slaves brought to Sapelo Island from West Africa -- it's believed they are descendants of the slaves of Thomas Spalding, who bought most of the approximately 16,000-acre island in 1802 and cultivated cotton, sugar and rice.
