Junior running back Thomas Brown has a long road of recovery ahead of him. Thomas will have surgery Tuesday on his torn ACL and will be out of action until at least fall camp next year.
Brown remains optimistic about his future at Georgia and he thinks he will be able to help the 2007 team.
"From what they have been telling me it will take about six months of rehab to be able to be back and cut loose and for the season I should be back 100 percent," said Brown.
Brown was an on the field leader for the Georgia offense and he just regained his starting position before his injury.
Brown finishes his junior campaign with 256 yards rushing, 379 kick return yards, and two touchdowns one of which came on a 99-yard kickoff return against Tennessee.
Before fall camp next year Brown will inform the coaching staff whether or not he will be able to play next year.
"I will let them know before then and they will release me in May, June, and July," said Brown. "I just want to try everything out and workout with the team in summer workouts and do little things on the side to see where I am."
Senior wide receiver Sean Bailey had the same injury last year during bowl practice and his knee is still not at 100 percent after 10 months of rehab. Junior running back Kregg Lumpkin had the same injury and it took two years before he was at the same level he was prior to his injury.
"I will wait and see how the rehab goes, but the way I have seen guys on this team go through ACL injuries and comeback I feel confident in my ability to comeback ready for next season," said Brown of his chances of playing next year.
