Buffs celebrate after shedding winless tag
BOULDER, Colo. - The scene at Folsom Field following the Buffaloes' 30-6 victory over Texas Tech on Saturday was reminiscent of a celebration that would take place after a team had just clinched a Division title or a win over a hated rival.
Fans rushed the field and players were finally awarded an opportunity to smile.
No, Colorado wasn't celebrating another Big 12 North Championship or a win over the Nebraska Cornhuskers
they were celebrating their first win of the 2006 season and the first win of the Dan Hawkins era.
The win also snapped Colorado's 10 game losing streak which dated back to last November.
"It's a big monkey off the back," quarterback Bernard Jackson said with a smile following the game. "We finally got a win. We just have to keep fighting from here and hopefully put more wins together.
"The fans showed us a bunch of love and we appreciate it. I think they were a little upset that we haven't been winning like we're supposed to but they kept supporting us and the program and we appreciate it."
