On a beautiful Sunday night at Howard Jones Field, USC completed its second scrimmage of Fall Camp.
The Trojans' first scrimmage was highlighted by a great rushing performance from freshman running back, Stafon Johnson. Sunday's scrimmage may have provided a different practice setting, but once again, youth highlighted the offense's success on the ground.
Led by Johnson, who rushed for more than 80-yards on seven carries, the first team offense relied on its young stable of running back to move the chains. Allen Bradford and C.J. Gable also chipped in with big runs. Gable, who ended the night with 65-yards rushing on five carries, may have had the scrimmage's most impressive run when he broke several tackle on his way to a 41-yard gain in the second half.
Gable would also continued to shine as a kick returner. After running for a 100-yard touchdown return in the Trojans' first scrimmage, Gable returned a kickoff for 90-yards Sunday.
Not playing in Sunday's scrimmage: Kevin Thomas, Vincent Joseph, Travis Draper, Chilo Rachal, Mozique McCurtis, Jimmy Miller, Chauncey Washington, Lawrence Jackson and Patrick Turner. Limited in action were Fred Davis and Dwayne Jarrett. Desmond Reed warmed up with a new knee brace, but did not play.
Kickoff first team takes the field - Bradford the only freshman with this unit.
David Beuhler kicks the ball into the endzone.
First series for the 1st team offense, JD Booty at quarterback, Tiny Malu at guard for Rachal
Booty throws an interception to Taylor Mays
(This is exactly why Mays is getting first team reps. Booty looks across the middle and Mays makes a great diving interception to stop the offense before it gets started.)
First series for the 2nd team offense, Sanchez at quarterback
Three and out for Sanchez.
(Both quarterbacks get off the rough starts. Booty throws a pick on his first pass, then Sanchez throws two incomplete passes to put the offense in a passing situation on 3rd down.)
