Hughes 'overwhelmed' by Irish offer
Steve Hare
IrishIllustrated.com Running back Robert Hughes finally has what he wants - an offer from Notre Dame.
"It's a written offer," he said. "It feels pretty good to get a Notre Dame offer. I know what Notre Dame has to offer and that is a great deal of education and tradition and you can be a part of a good school. I'm overwhelmed by the offer."
Hughes, a 5-foot-11, 226-pound running back from Chicago, remains in close contact with the Irish coaching staff.
"Last week I talked to coach (Rob) Ianello," he said. "He gave me a text and I gave him a text back. He asked me what I was doing and I told him I just got off the phone with Martez Wilson. We were just chatting and he asked me how things were going so he could get a quick update."
Ianello couldn't have sent the text message at a better time. Like Hughes, Wilson is a member of the Rivals100 and holds an Irish offer. The two Chicagoans have been rumored to be a package deal, one that Notre Dame would love to have delivered to South Bend.
