Natchez (Miss.) Trinity Episcopal junior Jaborian McKenzie was on a trip with classmates to Washington, D.C. , when a member of the Vanderbilt coaching staff called Wednesday to let him know the school was going to offer him a scholarship.

"I was surprised," McKenzie said. "It just came out of nowhere."

According to McKenzie, his relationship with the Commodores progressed quickly.
