Peacock Weighs in on Official Visit
The Houston Cougars continue to plug away to find the right fit for the final pieces of the 2011 recruiting class. With 16 current commitments in a class that is not expected to reach more than 20, the final few spots will be mulled over thoroughly before it is all said and done.
One player that is pretty much seen as a must take if he is willing to commit is Citrus Community College offensive tackle Jason Peacock. Peacock and teammate Addison Bachman, who plays center and also holds an offer from the Cougars, recently took their official visits to Houston and were on hand for the Cougars win over UTEP.
Once returning to California, we caught up with Peacock to get his thoughts on the trip and where his recruitment stood.
"Everything was great down there," said 6-foot-5, 325 pound tackle. "To be honest I felt like everything was great there. The people were great the food was great the football there was pretty much great. Hands down it was a great school. I had the opportunity to take a couple visits when I was in high school and Houston by far is the best I have been on."
Peacock's trip to Houston was really his first in a series of official visits that will culminate in December when he will make his decision on where to go after his mid-term graduation. That is of course unless a certain someone helps him pull the trigger faster.
"In December I am going on visits to Arizona and Mississippi State," said the Georgia native. "Those are the last two visits that I have set up, but to be honest it could be quicker than that. I'm really waiting on my mom to see what she thinks. If she feels comfortable with a school and likes it then I might as well go ahead and go for it. She most definitely will have a big say in where I end up. My mom has not been able to come see any of my games since I have been in California. Obviously if I moved to Texas it would be a closer distance and she could drive out and see a few games and that's good enough for us."
Although Peacock is not comfortable ranking the schools before he has seen them in person, he does know where Houston sits at the moment.
"I really couldn't rank them at this point to be honest," said the massive tackle. But to say that Houston has been the hands down best I have seen says a lot. Houston is definitely at the top of my list."
During Peacock's trip to Houston he got a chance to meet a lot of the staff that could be responsible for developing him further should he choose the Cougars.
"I got to meet Coach Anderson," he said. "Coach Anderson was real good. We pretty much run the same offense that Houston does here at Citrus so me and Addison (Bachman) were just sitting in the stands telling each other we know what this play is we know what that play is and so on. It was kind of fun. He was really enthusiastic about the fact that we already knew a lot about the offense. He seemed like a cool humble coach to us. He seemed like the kind of coach that would get after you if you are doing wrong but also take up for you if you are doing what you are supposed to be doing.
"I also got to meet Coach Sumlin there," he added. "He is a funny guy, a really great guy. He reminds me a lot of the coach I have now."
"The atmosphere there was so loud. We were sitting there in the stands trying to talk about how loud it was in the place. I thought it was really cool how they stop traffic for the busses to roll over to the stadium and then when everybody is getting off the bus all the fans are there."
Despite the theory that he and Bachman are a package deal, Peacock cleared up the thought of the two continuing their careers together at the next stop.
"We will go to the same place if it works out," he said. "It would be great if that works out that way because we already have chemistry and friendship, but in the same sense I really don't know his thought process and exactly what he is looking for in the end. We talk about going to the same team all the time and it would be fun, but it is not a given that we have to end up at the same place."
