Jones back from UA visit
Adamsville (AL) Minor safety Chris Jones is one of the top remaining uncommitted prospects in the state for 2011 and the 6-foot, 185-pound defensive back has remained relatively quiet about the recruiting process so far. Alabama has remained one of the top players for Jones and this weekend the Crimson Tide received an unofficial visit from the four-star prospect.
"I got down there early so I could spend the whole day in Tuscaloosa and really experience a game day there," Jones said. "I hung out a little bit on campus and then spent some time at the stadium with other recruits before the game."
"I got to talk with Coach Saban a little bit before the game. He told me that even though there is a lot of depth in the secondary right now at Alabama, there aren't a lot of guys with much experience so there is still going to be an opportunity for someone to come in next year and make an impact right away."
Jones lines up primarily at safety for Minor but said Saban and the Tide staff are recruiting him as a cornerback.
"Coach Saban says he really likes me at corner right now but the fact that I can play safety too gives me an even better chance to come in and compete for playing time somewhere in the secondary."
Jones said the Crimson Tide secondary's three-interception performance against Penn State was impressive and shows that the Tide defense can create big play opportunities even for young and inexperienced defensive backs.
"Alabama played a great game, they were really impressive to watch. The secondary really did their job well and came up with some big plays to keep them out of the end zone."
