Caper, Martin, Young detail spring football progress
EAST LANSING - Larry Caper had a number of highlight reel runs during his first season at Michigan State. During spring football, however, Caper is working hard to develop the consistency and durability needed to be a feature back in the Big Ten.
Caper heavier than he was last year and he has retained his speed from a year ago. The Spartan sophomore ran a 4.45 when the running backs were tested earlier this spring.
"I am focused on holding onto the ball after contact and things like that," Caper said. "I am really not focused on 100-yard gains or things like that, I am focused on the little things."
Caper approaches the game of football with a better grip on what his role is on offense and the role that all of his teammates play. The former Battle Creek Central star says the big-picture approach of his new position coach Brad Salem has helped him understand how the Spartan offense functions on a macro level.
"I feel more explosive because I feel more comfortable now with the offense," Caper said. "I know the schemes, I know what I am doing, I know what the offensive line is doing, I know what the defensive line is doing. It has helped me become a better running back."
