Spartans offer Indiana RB
When it comes to football talent, Fort Wayne, Indiana is as good as any place in the Midwest per capita. 2011 is no different and running back Remound Wright of Bishop Dwenger High School is a big reason why. Michigan State has officially offered the 5-foot-9, 190-pound prospect a scholarship and the staff had a chance to host him on an unofficial visit last weekend. SpartanMag.com caught up with Wright and got some details.
As many already know, Wright is one of the most productive returning running backs in the nation for th4 class of 2011. As a junior he rushed for over 2000-yards and scored 40 touchdowns. He did that while playing against quality competition. SpartanMag.com asked Wright about his recruitment.
"Things are going well," Wright stated. "I now have offers from Ball State, Western Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan State, Minnesota, Iowa, Stanford, Boston College and Northwestern."
With 5 Big Ten offers already on the table, an argument could be made that Wright is one of the most coveted ball carries in the entire Midwest.
When SpartanMag.com last spoke with Wright he indicated that had been told that he would be getting offered by Michigan State as soon as they hired a new running backs coach. We asked him if he has been to East Lansing recently and has he spoken with the new position coach.
"Yes, I was there last Thursday" he stated. I got to talk with Coach Salem and I like him so far. I also like Coach Treadwell too. We are starting to build a good relationship. All of the coaches seem like family."
The visit to East Lansing also afforded Wright an opportunity to see all of the updated facilities at Michigan State including the Skandalaris Canter and the expanded weight room.
"I love the facilities up there, he said. They are top notch in the country".
Wright participated in the Badger Sports 7vs7 two weekends ago and both he and his team had a strong performance.
"We placed 3rd," Wright stated. We qualified to go down to Alabama to compete for the national championship"
Wright went on to tell SpartanMag.com that the Michigan State staff informed him that as a running back they would like to get him involved in both the run and pass game. It certainly doesn't hurt Wright's chances at Michigan State that the Offensive Coordinator is serving as his primary recruiter.
With nine scholarship offers on the table, Wright is already sitting in a strong position, but he still intends on visiting a few more schools and attending several camps and combines this spring and summer. A 1-Day stop into the Spartan summer camp is likely.
If Wright finds the best fit, he could make his decision this summer. If he does decide on a college this summer, you can be sure Wright will do whatever he can to help his team recruit other top players. Wright has the type of work ethic and personality that will help attract other high-level players.
SpartanMag.com will be sure to keep in contact with Wright in the coming weeks and keep Michigan State fans updated on the latest news on his recruitment.
