Smith getting his chance as a freshman
When Chris Smith committed to Mississippi State he knew he wanted to play early on in his career.
The former four-star has gotten his chance as a true freshman playing in seven games for the Bulldogs including a pair of starts against Vanderbilt and Houston.
"They have had me starting a couple of games and things have been going well," Smith said. "I'm a freshman and was looking forward to playing. I can't do anything but get better and develop. It's been awesome. I've had my chances to start but I messed that up because I dropped some key balls in the Houston game and that's what stopped me from starting."
So far on the season, Smith has hauled in three passes for 22 yards and also recorded a tackle.
"It's been what I expected," Smith said. "It's faster and right now I'm adjusting to it. I'm glad I'm getting the opportunity. The crowd and the atmosphere have been awesome. I've never been in anything like that in my whole life so it's been great. It's a blessing really to be out there."
Smith enrolled early in the second summer term in July to jump start his career. The Meridian, Miss., native has been working hard in the weight room since his arrival jumping from 187-pounds up to 204-pounds on his 6-foot-1 frame.
